Rose Show Awards

The American Rose Society-sanctioned rose show offers many categories (classes) for competition. You can enter just about any kind of rose and have a good chance at winning an Award. Local societies usually give out trophies as well as Award Certificates (they may be restricted to members only).
Roses must be properly groomed and staged for the type of exhibition class you are competing in.

Queen of Show
This award goes to the best Hybrid Tea or Grandiflora in the Show.
King of Show
This award goes to the second-best Hybrid Tea or Grandiflora in the Show.
Princess of Show
This award goes to the third-best Hybrid Tea or Grandiflora in the Show.
Miniature Queen of Show
This award goes to the best Miniature in the Show.
Miniature King of Show
This award goes to the second-best Miniature in the Show.
Miniature Princess of Show
This award goes to the third-best Miniature in the Show.
Mini-Flora Queen of Show
This award goes to the best Mini-Flora in the Show.
Mini-Flora King of Show
This award goes to the second-best Mini-Flora in the Show.
Mini-Flora Princess of Show
This award goes to the third-best Mini-Flora in the Show.
Dowager Queen Certificate
This award goes to the best Old Garden Rose (date of introduction before 1867) in the Show.
Victorian Rose Certificate
This award goes to the best Old Garden Rose (date of introduction 1867 or after) in the Show.
Genesis Certificate
This award goes to the best Old Garden Rose (classed as a Species - Sp.) in the Show.
Hybrid Tea Spray
This award goes to the best Hybrid Tea Spray in the Show.
Grandiflora Spray
This award goes to the best Grandiflora Spray in the Show.
Miniature Spray
This award goes to the best Miniature Spray in the Show.
Mini-Flora Spray
This award goes to the best Mini-Flora Spray in the Show.
Fully Open Bloom
This award goes to the best fully open Hybrid Tea or Grandiflora in the Show.
Miniature Fully Open Bloom
This award goes to the best fully open Miniature in the Show.
Best Floribunda
This award goes to the best Floribunda in the Show.
Floribunda Spray
This award goes to the best Floribunda Spray in the Show.
Best Polyantha
This award goes to the best Polyantha in the Show.
Miniature Single
This award goes to the best Miniature "single" in the Show. A "single" roses has only one row of petals. The petal count is 4-11 petals and the rose is classified as "single".
Climber
This award goes to the best LCl or Hybrid Wichurana in the Show.
Classic Shrub
This award goes to the best Classic Shrub in the Show. Classic Shrubs are Hybrid Musk, Hybrid Rugosa and Kordesii only.
Modern Shrub
This award goes to the best Modern Shrub (all other shrubs, including Austins) in the Show.
Novice Certificate
For the best Novice exhibit, of any type.
Judges Certificate
The judges are invited to bring roses for a special class where they can compete only against each other. This award goes to the best Judges entry in the Show.
There are many other local and district awards that can be given at a rose show. Be sure to visit a show this year and see how the roses are exhibited. Then come back next year and enter your roses. You have as much chance to win as anyone else!
