Director of Planned Giving & Major Gifts
The American Rose Society seeks experienced Director of Planned Giving & Major Gifts to implement estate planning opportunities among members and friends of the society.
The American Rose Society is the largest single-plant horticulture society in the United States and among the oldest in the world. We serve more than 11,000 members and have 300+ affiliate societies in every state and most major cities. Our membership demographic is age 50+.
The successful candidate will be that member of the American Rose Society staff responsible for overall fundraising for the American Rose Society, Inc. and related endowments. Responsibilities of this position include seeking out opportunities and implementing initiatives which will identify, cultivate and solicit prospects and the development of programs to insure strong ongoing financial support.
Major Duties:
- Reports directly to Executive Director of the American Rose Society;
- Supports and partners with the Executive Director, the Planned Giving Committee and the Board of Directors to develop procedures for the raising, handling and acknowledgment of major contributions and planned gifts;
- Mentors staff, board members and volunteers in the arena of fund-raising, providing such training as may be required;
- Monitors all donor information; provides and presents a statistical analysis of gifts received;
- Provides regularly an updated list of prospects, with details of contacts, follow up and results (including evaluations and goals for cultivation);
- Develops and implements a standard written report for weekly telephone check-ins with the Executive Director and such additional written reports as the Executive Director may require;
- Participates in a monthly or quarterly conference call with the Planned Giving Committee, as the Committee may direct;
- Attends national, district, and local meetings of the American Rose Society and its affiliated societies as may enhance contributions and planned giving;
- Develops relationships within the professional community to create opportunities for promoting the American Rose Society as a planned gift recipient;
- Ensures that all donors receive appropriate, consistent recognition, and provides them with an accounting of the impact that their gifts have had on the Society;
Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated management experience and those interpersonal skills necessary for successful leadership;
- Ability to work collaboratively, accept responsibility, and mentor staff and volunteers;
- Ability to plan effectively, continuously improve current processes, and develop new methodologies which will support the overall goal;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to inspire, engage, and influence a wide range of donors and build long term relationships;
- Ability to organize fundraising activities effectively, prioritize prospects and follow through with implementation;
- Skill in the writing and development of promotional materials, brochures and reports which will promote the American Rose Society;
- Ability in forging relationships with donors which will stimulate annual donors to perpetuate their giving through planned gifts;
Qualifications:
- University degree in a related field (preferred) or an equivalent combination of training and experience;
- Five or more years of executive level experience in planned and major gift development;
- Tangible experience in expanding and cultivating donor relationships over time;
- Specialized knowledge relative to planned giving and major gifts fund-raising; Association of Fundraising Professionals certification preferred;
- Proven ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers and donors;
